Coat Room

The Coat Room provides coats and cold weather accessories for Douglas and Pope County families free of charge. There are no income guidelines or qualifications to use to the Coat Room. We ask that individuals and families take only items that they or their immediate family members are in need of. 

In following current COVID-19 precautions by MDC and the CDC, our current coat room hours & procedures are stated below. Changes to hours, or procedures, are subject to change without notice.


  • Friday, January 8th | 10am - 4pm
  • Friday, January 15th | 10am - 4pm
  • Friday, January 22nd | 10am - 4pm
  • Friday, January 29th | 10am - 4pm

During these hours we will be open for receiving donations and allowing individuals and families in to utilize the Coat Room.

Visitor Procedures: 

  • The Coat Room will only be open during the times listed above.
  • Please try to limit the number of people visiting so we can maintain social distancing and abide by our capacity limit
    • We ask that only one person per family shop the Coat Room
    • Minor children may enter the coat room with a parent or guardian
  • When you arrive call 320-834-7800, mention that you would like to visit the Coat Room
  • We will welcome you in, or let you know how long of a wait you will have and call you when we are ready for you to enter
  • When capacity allows you will be invited in our office, and will be asked to:
    • Hand sanitize
    • Wear a mask
    • Complete a short form
  • You will have 10 minutes to find items needed
  • Please limit the number of coats that you try on
  • Inventory will be taken when you leave

Donation Procedures: 

  • Donations will be accepted during the times listed above
  • When you arrive call 320-834-7800, mention that you have a donation for the Coat Room
  • We will meet you at the door and ask you to fill out a short form. You may do this:
    • From your vehicle
    • Standing outside
    • Or from inside our office, if spacing allows
  • This form is also available online. You may print and bring the completed form as well
  • If you were in your vehicle, please call back stating you have completed your donation form
  • When invited into the office you will be asked to:
    • Hand Sanitize
    • Wear a mask
    • Sign in
  • We will then ask you to remove donated items from any bags and place them into one of the available green bins
  • Please ask the volunteer or staff member if you need a receipt for your donation

Host a Coat Drive

Hosting a Coat Drive is an easy way to make a great impact locally! Anyone can do it. Here's how:

  1. Figure out where and with who to host your Coat Drive! Ideas:
    • Work
    • Church
    • Within your Youth Group or Club
    • Your neighborhood
  2. Find a large box to collect items in
  3. Print out the flyer and add your closing date
  4. Communicate the Coat Drive! Hand out flyers, send an email or text
  5. Bring your items to United Way at the close of your Coat Drive
