50 Ways to Get Involved! (Part 1)

  1. Register for a LIVE UNITED Luncheon where you'll learn about United Way and community needs. We end the event by packing hundreds of Backpack Attack food support bags for our local elementary school students! Register
     
  2. Make the holidays bright for a local family. Sign up to sponsor a child through our Holiday Gift Program. Sponsors receive a wish list for each child they wish to support and shop to meet their wants and needs. Registration opens November 12th! 
     
  3. Use a Thrivent Action Team for United Way! Contact our office to see how your Action Team can be used to make a difference. 
     
  4. Have you tried Speed Volunteering yet?! View Projects
     
  5. Give your employees the opportunity to support United Way through a workplace campaign. This looks different in every business! Check out our Campaign Toolkit  for resources and ideas. 
     
  6. Volunteer for a shift at our monthly Food Drop in either Pope or Douglas County. Link
     
  7. Check out our volunteer website. Create a profile, choose your favorite organizations and receive email updates when new opportunities are available. To get started visit GetConnected and click "sign up".
     
  8. Make a donation! Right now our greatest need is for the Douglas County Food Drop. $100 can support 6 families during a typical month. 
     
  9. Volunteer during our Holiday Gift program. We need help collecting and organizing sponsor's gifts. We also need support handing out gifts to registered families. It's the best way to get into the holiday spirit! You can even wear your favorite ugly Christmas sweater. Contact Leah (lwolkow@uwdp.org) if you're interested! 
     
  10. Be an influencer. Share how you're supporting United Way with a friend! They just may want to join in. 
     
  11. Join our volunteer data base by completing this form. We will contact you when a project that suits your interests arises.  
     
  12. Consider joining one of our Affinity Groups: Retired United, Students United or Women United.
     
  13. Stay in touch by signing up to receive our newsletter.
     
  14. Spread the news. Print out an invite or flyer and place it in a shared space or breakroom.
     
  15. Follow us on Facebook or Instagram. Go wild and share your favorite post!
     
  16. Participate in our Chip In Challenge by volunteering with us. During your shift write your name and phone number on a provided plastic chip and toss it into our jar. Our “Chip In” jar will be available throughout the year. Prize drawings to appreciate volunteers will be in April! 
     
  17. Learn about a United Way program and ask how you can be a champion for it! (lwolkow@uwdp.org) 
     
  18. Raise support for a cause you care about by bringing some FUNdraising to your workplace. Workplace Fun 
     
  19. After the holidays, donate your gently used children's books to our office. We get to share them with our littlest learners at the Traveling Tree House. 
     
  20. Invest in future generations by making a gift to our Endowment Fund. Donations of $100 or more receive recognition and our anniversary tumbler mug. 
     
  21.  Don't jump to conclusions about those who need support. 
     
  22. Read our last blog article to learn about ALICE. ALICE is working hard, earning above the Federal Poverty Level, but doesn't make enough to meet the basic household survival budget. 
     
  23. Share a photo and story on social media of how YOU care for or support others. Kindness is seriously contagious. 
     
  24. Are you a small business? Consider joining Small Business 365 and join others who care about supporting the needs of our community. 

25. We've got water bottle stickers. Grab one next time you're in our office and place it on your water bottle or laptop with pride.
