Our Impact and Accountability
At Lakes and Prairie United Way, we believe transparency builds trust, and trust builds stronger communities. Every dollar given is an investment in the people, programs, and partnerships that strengthen our five-county region: Douglas, Otter Tail, Pope, Todd, and Wadena Counties.
We hold ourselves accountable to our donors, partners, and community. Through responsible stewardship and strategic investment, we ensure that funds raised locally are used locally to create measurable impact.
Annual Impact Reports
Each year, our team compiles data, stories, and outcomes from across our impact areas:
Healthy Communities – improving access to basic needs, food security, and mental health supports.
Youth Opportunity – connecting young people with learning, mentoring, and enrichment experiences.
Financial Security – helping families achieve stability through resources, education, and employment support.
Community Resiliency – strengthening local nonprofits and responding to emergent community needs.
Our Annual Report highlights this impact, including financial summaries, donor recognition, and the real-life impact of your support.
Business Partnerships
Our community impact is made possible through the generous support of our business partners. From event sponsorships to workplace giving, local businesses help create lasting change where we live and work.
We recognize business partnerships at various levels, including Live United Partners and Business 365 Members, to honor their ongoing commitment to the community.
Fiscal Year Reporting
Our fiscal year runs from July 1 through June 30. During this period, we track both monetary and in-kind contributions to ensure they are invested in programs and initiatives that meet the greatest needs in our region.
We maintain clear reporting standards that align with United Way Worldwide financial guidelines and the Better Business Bureau’s Wise Giving Alliance Standards for Charitable Accountability.
Financial Stewardship
Every contribution, whether a workplace pledge, corporate gift, or personal donation, is carefully managed to maximize community impact. A volunteer Finance and Audit Committee oversees budgeting and investments to ensure funds are used responsibly and effectively.
