Students United is a leadership and service initiative that gives young people the opportunity to make a difference in their schools and communities. Through the support of United Way and local educators, students in middle school, high school, and college are empowered to lead volunteer projects, raise awareness around community needs, and take an active role in local impact efforts.
The program encourages youth to think critically about issues facing their community and equips them with the tools to take meaningful action. Students United participants gain leadership experience, build connections with peers and mentors, and contribute directly to United Way’s focus areas of youth opportunity, financial security, healthy communities and community resiliency.
Throughout the year, Students United members support programs that benefit their fellow students and neighbors, from helping pack school supply for Stuff the Bus, to assisting with food security efforts and local outreach events. In our community, the work is rooted in school-based leadership teams and supported by staff, making the effort part of a larger educational experience.
One of the key events Students United participates in is Day of Caring, a day dedicated to service, teamwork, and community pride. Students from across the Alexandria area step out of the classroom and into the community to help with projects that support local nonprofits, city spaces, and neighbors in need.
